Alison Beames
BSc Osteopathy, Sports Massage Diploma
I first experienced Osteopathy following spinal surgery during my teens and subsequent rehabilitation programme. Following a successful 10 year corporate career in London, I decided to join the profession and employ a lifestyle change. I strongly believe that the body should be considered as a unit, and by promoting and maintaining health it is possible to influence the body’s adaptability to cope with daily stresses of life and influence a faster recovery period. I treat every patient individually and assess them as a complete biomechanical unit adapting my techniques between structural and cranial osteopathy, soft tissue, articulations, trigger point therapy, muscle energy techniques amongst others. I am also trained in kinesiology taping especially effective for muscle strains and joint mobilisation.
I have a lot of experience working as a sports therapist previously to becoming an Osteopath and am used to reating all sorts of sporting injuries. I supported a large cyclist peloton in France on a long distance event, and have worked at triathlons regularly treating triathletes. I am used to helping sportspeople maintain their optimum fitness when training.
I also sees a lot of patients with postural related pain often as a result of long hours at a desk and stressful jobs, I like to work with the patient to improve posture and advise on individual management plans offering control back to the patient.
I have always been active and enjoy regular swimming, cycling, running, pilates and gym classes. Outside of sports and work, I enjoy walking, being by the sea, painting and travelling.
